Chicago Marathon

Inspired by the Chicago marathon last week, personalized marathon prints are now live on Etsy! Currently, Chicago, New York City, Boston, and Los Angeles are available. Each print comes in a variety of sizes and colors. Don't see the marathon you've ran? More city marathons are on their way, but until then, there is a custom option. Choose any marathon, and a personalized, custom print will be designed just for you!

Sixty-Five Roses

Once upon a time, a little boy overheard his mother on a phone call. He kept hearing his mother say the same phrase over and over again, "sixty-five roses". Eventually, he went up to his mother and said, "I know who you are working for… You are working for Sixty-Five Roses". Little did he know, not only was she actually volunteering for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, but he and his two other brothers also had cystic fibrosis.

Since then, "65 Roses" has been used my children and adults to describe the disease. The rose has also become a symbol for the CFF.

Inspired by a friend, who has CF, I have created this print. There are exactly 65 roses throughout the shape of this dog. This print comes in several different colors, as well as custom colors upon request. A name/phrase can be added to the print as well, just leave a comment in the notes. More animals will come soon!

Most importantly, a portion of the of the sales of this print will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

This unique print looks great by itself, or on a gallery wall with other prints. It would be a perfect gift for holidays, birthdays, or housewarming parties. And of course, a great gift for yourself!

Summer 2016 Bucket List Recap

img_8130.jpg
Three months ago I posted my Summer 2016 Bucket List. Sadly, summer has officially come to the end because tomorrow is the autumnal equinox, the official first day of fall. And while the weather in KC may still say summer, I am ready for sweater weather and pumpkin everything!

Below, I have a recap of what we were able to accomplish this summer!

SF_6

1: Travel to Northern California. We did! I joined Steve on his work trip to San Francisco and had the best time. You can see all of the pictures here!

3: Attend a Big Summer Concert We almost didn't make this one, but then in late August we attended a Def Leppard Concert with some of Steve's coworkers. We were definitely the youngest people there, but it was still an awesome concert! Their openers were Tesla and REO Speedwagon.

img_86044: Being the House Hunt. Not only did we begin the house hunt, but we found the house and closed last week! Moving soon!

5: Learn to Make Ice Cream. We received an ice cream maker as a wedding gift in the summer of 2015 and we finally used it! I made some delicious chocolate ice cream! With fall beginning, I'm looking forward to trying out some pumpkin and apple flavors!

6: Continue to grow my Etsy Page. Since I posted this bucket list in June, I have added 38 new listings! And there is so much more to come!

Alaska_117: Hiking in Alaska. Truly one of the best experiences of my life! We hiked up 4600ft elevation and a round trip total of about 10 miles. The entire trip took 6 hours; 4 hours up and 2 down. Such an accomplishment. And yes, we could barely move the next day! Pictures here and here.

Saturdaze: July Update

alaska_6.jpg

July was insanely busy! We were in Alaska and San Francisco, and the weeks in between, Steve was traveling for work. My mom was in town for a few days, which was amazing! I realized she and I hadn't spent multiple days together, just the two of us, in years! So we really enjoyed our time together :D In July, I…

Watched: UnREAL. My friend told me about this show while we were watching the Bachelorette. It's so addicting! I highly recommend it, especially if you like reality television. I've also started Breaking Bad for the very first time!

Wore: Pants and jackets. Shorts and tanks. I spent half this month in colder cities and the other half in 90+ degree weather in KC.

Heard: New podcast fav: How Did This Get Made?

Read: I've added What Alice Forgot to my never ending pile of half-read books.

Traveled: Traveled to Alaska and San Francisco! You can read about it and see pictures here, here, and here!

Saw: The Secret Life of Pets and Ghostbusters. We saw them at the Boulevard Drive-in Movie Theater, which was so much fun!  We also saw the new Star Trek movie.

News: We've officially started the house hunt! I've also added a bunch of new prints to the Kaleidoscope Spinning's Etsy Page, including 4 USA prints!

Something I am most looking forward to in August is the completion of my CorePower Yoga Teacher Training! It's been such a wonderful experience and I can't believe it's almost over. Also keep your eye out for new prints on the Etsy Page!

As always, thank you for reading,

Helen

What We Gave Our Bridal Party

jhl_9968.jpg

In our wedding, we had 7 bridesmaids and 7 groomsmen. Each one of them were so supportive and helpful during the wedding planning. Because of this, I took what we gave our bridal part very seriously. They deserved something thoughtful and useful. It took some time, but Steve and I, and our bridal party, were very happy with what we chose! The Bridesmaids: I wanted to give my bridesmaids two different types of gifts:

  1. Something they could wear while we were getting ready before the wedding
  2. A piece of jewelry they could wear to the wedding

But here is the catch; I wanted the gifts to be something they could wear again.

I searched for a long time looking at tshirts, robes, pants, and tank tops. Then the thought came to me; a zip-up hoodie! It would be perfect for getting ready that morning since they wouldn't  have to take it off over their head. I found an Etsy shop that would monogram each hoodie and had a variety of color options! My bridesmaids got heather gray hoodies with purple thread. JHL_9898

I got myself the same hoodie in white. It had the monogram of my new name! HJHDSCN4517

For the jewelry, I went to one of my favorite Etsy shops, Bip and Bop. I found this beautiful, delicate necklace. It matched the theme of my wedding, and the bridesmaids dresses perfectly! The girls loved it all and even a year later have told me they still wear both gifts! Hearing that just warms my heart! :)

The Groomsmen: Steve wanted to make sure the groomsmen's gifts were functional and practical. We thought for a while about what they would want. Then I remembered when my cousin got married, they gave the groomsmen duffel bags. I told Steve about this and he loved the idea! We found these great overnight bags on Etsy and they guys loved them!

For their second gift, I wanted to add a little fun to it, while still remaining functional. It didn't take long to think of flasks. (Thought process was basically, "What do guys in their 20s like to do?" Drink! Haha)

It's probably clear by now that I turned to Etsy a lot when it came time to look for bridal party gifts. I highly recommend it because you can basically find anything and everything you'd be interested in. And while you're perusing Etsy, make sure to stop by my page! I'm adding new prints all the time.

As always, thanks for reading, Helen
