Wild Thing Sweater | Jeans | Adidas Shoes | Nails

There is a crisp fall breeze, Starbucks has brought back PSLs, that means sweater weather is quickly approaching! Yay!

This is such a comfy, cozy sweater. I have been wearing it constantly since I bought it at CorePower Yoga. It's light-weight, but manages to keep me so warm. This makes it a great layering piece. This, plus the fact that it looks amazing with jeans, skirts, and leggings, makes it perfect! And I love this added detail of "Wild Thing" on the left side.

Spiritual Gangster no longer has this sweater available, but it is on YogaOutlet.com! Sizes are limited, so check it out!

My Only Staple Button-Down

J. Crew Button Down | Camisole (Old Who What Wear Collection similar here and here) | Mix No. 6 Shoes | J. Crew Shorts | Kendra Scott Kiri Necklace

Typically, I am not one for button-down shirts. I find they don't fit my body type as well as expected. So when I tried this blue and white striped shirt, I was shocked to see how well it fit!

J. Crew Button Down | Camisole (Old Who What Wear Collection similar here and here) | Mix No. 6 Shoes | J. Crew Shorts | Kendra Scott Kiri Necklace

Currently there are plenty of sizes available. I sized down for a more fitted look.

Sleeveless Trench Coat

Dress: Francesca's (old, but similar here and here) | Trench Coat: H&M (old, but similar here and here) | Shoes: BCBGeneration | Sunglasses: American Eagle | Nail Polish: Essie | Lips: CoverGirl

When I came home with a sleeveless trench coach in my shopping bag, Steven shook his head. He looked at me and said, "What is the point of a sleeveless trench coat? It's not going to keep you warm." I laughed and while I knew he was correct, I couldn't help myself, I just loved it!

Since it's purchase, I tend to only wear the coat in spring and fall because the black is so heavy. In summer, I gravitate towardswhite and bright, vibrant colors. As a result, I typically find the long black silhouette to be overpowering when paired with summer outfits. Recently though, I realized this coat would look perfect with a black and white lace summer dress I already owned.

I've had this dress for a few years now and in the past, I've worn it with cropped jackets. They give the outfit a finished look, but because of the fuller skirt, there ends up being a boxy feel to it. The beauty of pairing this trench coat with a full skirt is the entire outfit suddenly slims down. I immediately feel taller. I paired the outfit with my black heels and added a bold red lip. Despite the lack of color, I am loving the diametrically opposed colors. While it deviates from what I typically like to wear in the summertime, I find the contrast bold, appealing, and striking.

As a bonus, I have found that this coat does keep my core warm!

Fall Skirt For Spring

Top: Mossimo (similar here and here) | Skirt: Mossimo | Shoes: Mix6 | Jacket: Old Express (similar here and here) | Watch: Old Tommy Hilfiger (similar here and here) | Sunglasses: American Eagle | Nail Polish: SinfulColors | Lips: CoverGirl

I find spring and fall to be interesting times of the year. They're a middle ground; a combination of every weather imaginable: hot, cold, rain, snow. They're both transitional times. In the fall we move from sandals and sundresses to boots and sweaters. Then in the spring we trade our sweaters for the same sundresses.  The thing I have found to be most curious is how no one seems to talk about just how similar these two season are style wise. With both season lasting about three months, we spend more time transitioning between winter and summer, then we actually do in the heat or the col.  Despite their similarities, we are expect to have separate wardrobes for both seasons.

My red corduroy skirt, perfect for a fall day. I purchased it last October and wore it constantly in the fall. I have styled it with boots, tights, chambray shirts, and sweaters. I recently pulled it out of my closet and became sad at the thought of not wearing this for another 6 months. The color is deep and the fabric is heavy; not up to the normal spring standards. But I decided I didn't want to ignore this skirt. In a time where jean skirts, another heavy fabric, have come back in style, I believed this will work.

I started with a complimentary color for the deep, warm red. I decided that blush (a spring stable) would pair nicely with the burgundy. I brought this out in my shoes and accessories, with additional touches of silver and gold. Then one of my favorite white tees, partially tucked in for a relaxed look. Finally, my jean jacket, an item I wear all year round.

After the success of this outfit, I am determined to keep this up. Hopefully, this is help me expand my outfit choices, while keeping my shopping this spring to a minimum.

Neutral Color Block

Kansas City weather has been a fickle little vixen recently. One day it's hot, next day it's cold, the following day we have a tornado warning! This can make dressing for the weather very difficult. It's not quite time to abandon sweaters, but I also have my shorts well within reach. So the combination of the miniskirt with three-quarter length sleeves makes this Lulu's dress perfect for any day.

My story behind this dress is actually a cute one. I had pinned this dress randomly on my Pinterest Board months before I saw it on Lulu's! So when it popped up on the website while browsing, I knew I had to add it to my closet. I styled it with this gorgeous hard gold belt with a detail chain on the back, easy beige booties, and a dainty Kendra Scott necklace. But the beauty behind this dress is I can style it for the warm summer days by adding a sandal or ballet flat or for the cooler spring evenings by adding my brown leather jacket. So much versatility! I just love this dress!

To my Kansas City readers, hope everyone was safe last night! And in the mean time enjoy this wonderful weather. This city has proven that it can come and go at the drop of a hat!

A Dress Fit For a Bride…smaid

For nearly a year of my post-grad life, I worked at Bella Bridesmaids, a boutique filled with bridesmaids dresses only, no wedding gowns. There, I learned so much about bridesmaids dresses and the designers. I truly enjoyed helping brides find the perfect dresses for their closest friends. It was so wonderful getting to help make the most special day of their lives even better! It brought me so much joy! But to my surprise, it wasn't uncommon for a bride to come in looking for a dress for herself!

There are plenty of reason why a bride would turn to a bridesmaids shop to find her own dress. For starters, there is the price point. Bridesmaids dresses tend to fall in the $150-$300 range depending on the designer. This compared to a $1000+ price point for a bridal gown can be very appealing. Another reason can be the simplicity. We would see a lot of brides who were getting married on the beach, who were eloping, or who just wanted a simple, yet beautiful dress.

Often time bridesmaids dresses offer more variety than bridal gowns. Not every bride wants a long, white dress. Bridesmaids dresses offer a variety of color and style options, while still looking bridal.

Below, I've collected 27 of my favorite options for bridesmaids dresses turned bridal gown!

I, myself, wore Paper Crown's Brenna dress for my rehearsal dinner. Afterwards, when photos were posted online, so many people asked if it was actually wedding dress!

Also, remember that everything you've seen is a bridesmaids dress, so they all come in a several different colors outside of white, blush, and champagne. So if you see something you like and want it for your own bridesmaids, make sure to take a look and see all of the color options!

Summer Shoe Favorites

Summer has always been my favorite season for shoes. Everything is so colorful, with a mix of high heels and ballet flats. So I decided to share my favorite shoe buys of this summer!

1. Blush Ballet Flats Ballet flats are always my summer go-to shoe. Personally, I don't like wearing flip flops unless I am at the beach, so I need an alternative to an easy slip on summer shoe. In my array of ballet flats, I realized I was missing a blush pink pair. So I went on the hunt and found this pair! They are so comfy and simple and had a great price point.

Summer_Shoe_1Summer_Shoe_22. Tennis Shoes Another hole in my shoe closet was a stylist tennis shoe. Something along the lines of what Taylor Swift would wear. When I found these, there were so many color options! I decided to go with the turquoise color because it is one of my favorite colors, especially for summer! They go with shorts, skirts, and sun dresses, so I've been wearing them all the time!

Summer_Shoe_3Summer_Shoe_4

3. Lace-up Ballet Flats I had been iffy about this lace-up shoe trend. I had seen some styles I liked and others I didn't, so I wasn't sure if it was a style I should pursue. As a compromise, I decided to tryout the style on a less expensive shoe, and see how often I would wear them. Turns out, a lot!

Summer_Shoe_5

Summer_Shoe_6 4. Peep-Toe Booties I had bought and returned so many pairs of open-toe booties for the last few months. I loved this trend, but could not find a pair that fit me well. I decided to try one last pair, and if they didn't work, I was giving up. Thankfully, I tried because this pair was the perfect one!

5. Blush/Gray Ankle Strap High Heel When I saw these shoes, I didn't have a reason to buy them. But of course, I didn't let that stop me because they are beautiful! Since they're purchase, I have found reason after reason to wear them and I have gotten so many compliments. Sometimes you just need to buy the shoes!

What I Packed for Alaska

alaska_view.jpg

We are in Alaska! Yesterday, we took our long flight from KC to Anchorage. The travel time, including the layover, was 8 hours. But I came prepared with things to do, like writing this post, so the time went quickly.

Prior to the trip, my friend we're visiting sent us a "must pack list." This list contained items that we would need specifically for our Alaskan adventures.  Because of this, we had a bit of an unusual packing list. Some key pieces are included below!

Alaska-flatlays2.jpg

  1. Leggings on leggings on leggings. We will be going on hikes, among other outdoor activities, and leggings are perfect for all of them.
  2. Hiking boots. As you may have read in last week's Friday Finds, I recently bought hiking boots for this trip.
  3. Rain Coat. This was actually a wonderful excuse to buy a rain coast, which I have been meaning to get for years. A necessity because we will be doing some ice hiking and boating.
  4. Hat. It may be summer, but it's still cold in Alaska.
  5. Swim suit. You may have read my statement above and thought, "If it's cold, why the swim suit?" One of the places we're going has a hot tub, so we gotta be prepared!

Then, of course, we had to pack the typical clothing items and usual travel accessories. The weather is expected to be mostly in the 50s and 60s. So I packed jeans, leather leggings, sweaters, tees, and booties. The cooler weather is definitely welcomed after the 100+ heat wave in Kansas City!

If you're interested in seeing photos from Alaska in real time, check out my Instagram page.
