Chicago Marathon

Inspired by the Chicago marathon last week, personalized marathon prints are now live on Etsy! Currently, Chicago, New York City, Boston, and Los Angeles are available. Each print comes in a variety of sizes and colors. Don't see the marathon you've ran? More city marathons are on their way, but until then, there is a custom option. Choose any marathon, and a personalized, custom print will be designed just for you!

A few weeks ago I posted this photo on Instagram of this gorgeous outfit and got such a positive repost selfie I wanted to share more of it!

Unfortunately, I could not bring this whole outfit to Paris. The skirt is doesn't fold easily and wasn't versatile enough for the trip and the heels weren't practical for all of the walking. But there was nothing stopping me from sharing this look on the here!

This skirt has made several appearances on the blog and my Instagram, so it's probably no secret that I love it! Its flowy but voluminous, so pairing it with a fitted shirt is necessary. I chose the black and white striped shirt because there is something about stripes that feels very Parisian. Toss on some nude pumps and my favorite tweed blazer and I'd be ready to hit the streets of Paris. But I'll settle for KC! :D

Fall '17 Bucket List

IMG_3239.JPG

As a new season approaches, so does a new bucket list!

Oh fall! Jeans, boots, and sweaters. Changing leaves, pumpkins, and apple pie. Hot drinks and cold nights. Currently, Steve and I just got to Germany, where we're lucky enough to be visiting with friends. You'll notice below in the list, there is no mention of anything related to this trip. While our European adventure was the perfect way to start the season (and celebrate my birthday!), this trip has been on the "Lifetime Bucket List". It's an item I am overjoyed to cross off!

To start fall off on the right foot, I present my Fall Bucket List. I'm hoping to get everything crossed off by December 21st, the last day of fall.

Leaves_1.jpg

1. Attend a football game (college or pro)

Charleston, SC: KSxSC

A tad late on this one, but I am (finally) sharing a recap of our trip to Charleston, South Carolina.

Day 1

We landed in Charleston in the late afternoon. Once we got to the hotel, we were able to freshen up and then head to a dinner. We went to the Tattooed Moose which I found on Diners, Dives, and Drive-ins. It was a hole-in-the-wall bar with unbelievable food. The roasted garlic + blue cheese fries are an absolute must!

SC_7.jpg
SC_1.jpg

Day 2

Took an Uber to Folly Beach which ended up being the cutest town. Think if Stars Hallow was a beach town. We spent a couple hours soaking in the sun and walking into the water. Afterwards we headed to lunch at a place just off the ocean called Rita's Seaside Grill. We ended up meeting an old college friend there as well, who lives a tad more inland.

SC_9.jpg

Before we said out goodbyes, she took us to see this massive tree called The Angel Oak Tree, which is 400-500 years old!

We ended the day with dinner in the city and drinks at a gin bar; but not before I got my hands on a glass of rose!

SC_8.jpg

Day 3

We started our day with a walk through the city market. Hundreds of local vendors set up in this designated area everyday to sell their products.

Steven found what I dubbed "The Most Amazing Sandwich Shop in Charleston" for lunch. Brown Dog Deli had amazing food and décor.

After lunch, we continued to stroll through the city and finally found out why we were seeing pineapples everywhere!

A staple for any "Harm Trip" is to see something historical. So we took a boat trip out to Fort Sumter. While I usually smile along and indulge Steven with this part of our trips, I truly enjoyed this one!

SC_6.jpg

With some time to kill before dinner, we took a walk through Battery Park. We saw some of the most beautiful homes and the famous Rainbow Road.

As our evening started to wind down, we found a rooftop bar for a quick happy hour and follow it up at a brewery for dinner.

Friday Favorites: New Month, New Name!

FF_9.1.jpg

Happy September everyone!

September has always been my favorite month. For starters, it's my birth month, which automatically makes any month more special. Additionally, September comes with the early days of fall, pumpkin flavored anything, and the best clothes. Everything just feels more crisp and fresh. It makes me excited to start new.

So I thought I would switch things up with Friday Finds and turn it into Friday Favorites. Instead of sharing articles I've read online, I'm going to start sharing products and places I've seen and done. Hope you enjoy!

New favorite YouTube series.

Finally got my hands on a glass of froze!

I hope I don't lose these new hair ties.

What I add to all my fruit smoothies.

Did anyone else know Lilly Pulitzer had leggings?

Saw this woman speak on Monday; now I want her book.

My Only Staple Button-Down

J. Crew Button Down | Camisole (Old Who What Wear Collection similar here and here) | Mix No. 6 Shoes | J. Crew Shorts | Kendra Scott Kiri Necklace

Typically, I am not one for button-down shirts. I find they don't fit my body type as well as expected. So when I tried this blue and white striped shirt, I was shocked to see how well it fit!

J. Crew Button Down | Camisole (Old Who What Wear Collection similar here and here) | Mix No. 6 Shoes | J. Crew Shorts | Kendra Scott Kiri Necklace

Currently there are plenty of sizes available. I sized down for a more fitted look.

J. Crew Button Down | Camisole (Old Who What Wear Collection similar here and here) | Mix No. 6 Shoes | J. Crew Shorts | Kendra Scott Kiri Necklace

This top can dress up any outfit, whether it's a skirt, jeans, or in my case shorts. I love throwing this shirt over a camisole with a rolled up sleeve for a more relaxed style.

Friday Finds: Finally It's Summer!

Happy Friday friends!

It is officially summer and I could not be happier! Although we were hit with some intense rain yesterday in the Kansas City area, the sun is shining and birds are singing and my schedule is finally starting to clear up. Going into spring, Steve and I knew we would be busy, but I don't think we realized how exhausting the constant travel and entertaining would be for us. But the season has passed and now it's time for a relaxing summer.

Now someone get me to a pool and hand me a glass of rosé!

Here are some of my favorite finds this week!

May flew by. It was a whirlwind of travel, furniture shopping, illness, and work; lots and lots of work. Even as I write this, I am having trouble remembering details about May because so much happened so quickly!

In May, I…

Heard: Continued obsession with the How I Built This podcast and Seincast podcast.

Ate: Been obsessed with avocado toast and egg whites for breakfast.

Traveled: Bowling Green, OH for my younger brother's college graduation and back to Chicago for another wedding.

Saw: Beauty and the Beast! And I finally got to meet my cousin's newborn son! What a handsome little man!

Set Your Intention: Find Stillness in Your Mind

This week, I offer the intention to "Find Stillness in Your Mind".

With the spring ending and summer quickly approaching, our schedules tend to get busier. Weekends fill out with weddings, parties and day trips. Typical Monday through Friday norms are shifted with kids home form school and vacations to new places. It is very easy to get lost in the constant movements both physical and mental.

So as we entire the busy summer, I encourage you to find time for yourself. Let your mind be still, let your mind wander, get lost in your own thoughts. Take whatever actions you need to make this a reality. This can be during your yoga practice or on your time. Either way, find it!

This month at CorePower Yoga is doing another challenge! Hit the mat 20 times in the month of May for a chance to win prizes for nationally and at your local studio! Getting sick kept me from my mat for several days, but I am getting back on track!

Here are some of my favorite finds this week!

Set Your Intention: Accept Support

This week, I offer the intention to "Accept Support".

In yoga , we have the option to use blocks and straps to help deepen and elevate our practice and postures. They are available for every class, but do we use them to their maximum potential? Probably not. These tools are there to help and support us, yet many of us just ignore them. Our ignorance of these tool could have originated from different places, including embarrassment. I used to be sheepish over grabbing a block before class. I was fearful that my practice would appear weak or unstable.

Similarly to every day life, sometimes it can be difficult to accept help or support from people for fear of looking weak. This could not be further from the truth. It takes a strong person to know when they need to accept support.

Blocks and straps turn our practice from "I can't" to "I can" to "I did". A strap can take you from Extended Side Angle to a Bind to Birds of Paradise. A block can encourage you to engage your inner thighs, deepen your twist, and lengthen your spine. * We use them until they don't serve us anymore; and we return to them when a new challenge faces us.

Accepting support can takes us to poses and places we otherwise thought unimaginable. It's rather amazing what we can accomplish So this week, both in your yoga practice and in everyday life, I encourage you to accept support.

"Sometimes asking for help is the bravest move you can make. You don't have to go at it alone."

Fall Skirt For Spring

Top: Mossimo (similar here and here) | Skirt: Mossimo | Shoes: Mix6 | Jacket: Old Express (similar here and here) | Watch: Old Tommy Hilfiger (similar here and here) | Sunglasses: American Eagle | Nail Polish: SinfulColors | Lips: CoverGirl

I find spring and fall to be interesting times of the year. They're a middle ground; a combination of every weather imaginable: hot, cold, rain, snow. They're both transitional times. In the fall we move from sandals and sundresses to boots and sweaters. Then in the spring we trade our sweaters for the same sundresses.  The thing I have found to be most curious is how no one seems to talk about just how similar these two season are style wise. With both season lasting about three months, we spend more time transitioning between winter and summer, then we actually do in the heat or the col.  Despite their similarities, we are expect to have separate wardrobes for both seasons.

My red corduroy skirt, perfect for a fall day. I purchased it last October and wore it constantly in the fall. I have styled it with boots, tights, chambray shirts, and sweaters. I recently pulled it out of my closet and became sad at the thought of not wearing this for another 6 months. The color is deep and the fabric is heavy; not up to the normal spring standards. But I decided I didn't want to ignore this skirt. In a time where jean skirts, another heavy fabric, have come back in style, I believed this will work.

I started with a complimentary color for the deep, warm red. I decided that blush (a spring stable) would pair nicely with the burgundy. I brought this out in my shoes and accessories, with additional touches of silver and gold. Then one of my favorite white tees, partially tucked in for a relaxed look. Finally, my jean jacket, an item I wear all year round.

After the success of this outfit, I am determined to keep this up. Hopefully, this is help me expand my outfit choices, while keeping my shopping this spring to a minimum.

Kaleidoscope Spinning Turns One!

On this day, one year ago, I posted this, my first blog post. Thus began a year of many changes and many adventures.

Top: Mossimo (similar here and here) | Tank: Merona | Skirt: Mossimo (similar here and here) | Shoes: Mossimo | Watch: Old Tommy Hilfiger (similar here and here) | Sunglasses: American Eagle | Nail Polish: Essie | Lips: CoverGirl | Balloon: Pink Antlers Studio

Words cannot truly describe how incredibly the last year has been, but I'm going to do my best!

I should start by thanking all of my friends and followers who have supported me throughout the past year on this fun adventure. The positive response I have gotten from everyone has been overwhelming and just absolutely wonderful! I couldn't be happier! In addition to the blog, this is also the anniversary of my Etsy Page.

I constantly go back and forth about which was more of a risk; my blog or my Etsy page. Both have required to me to be vulnerable and transparent. I've put myself out there in my writing, my photos and my designs; Open to judgment, critique, and potential failure. Kaleidoscope Spinning was born from a need for change. I've had this call inside of me to do this for quite some time, but ignored it for years.

Finally, one year ago, I decided I was tired for waiting. I had dreams and goals and I decided to stop waiting for someone else to tell me it was okay to chase them.

I've learned a lot about myself this year, as I am sure you guys have too. It's been a wonderful year, filled with some amazing memories. But now, onto the future. I have some big plans for the next year, specifically the next few months, and I am so excited to get started!

If you live in the Kansas City area, or I guess the Midwest in general, you have experienced days upon days of rain, clouds, and overall darkness. I am not a fan.
